Hello and Happy 2024!
This spring will mark ten years since I founded Edible History. What started as an historical supper club in Brooklyn in 2014, has grown and evolved quite a bit over the last decade: from intimate pop-ups in pottery studios, to museum residencies, to raucous 100 person banquets, and most recently a book – A History of The World in Ten Dinners.
As Edible History enters its 10th year, I’m excited to share some new projects with you all. For many years Edible History has told the history of various time periods through the recreation of historical recipes. But now I’m flipping the script a bit, and setting out to share history in a new medium: The Edible History Newsletter, short weekly musings on singular food histories, delivered straight to your inbox every Wednesday.
Each week I’ll dive into the history of a dish, where it comes from, how it came to be, the traditions and stories surrounding it (think Spaghetti Bolognese). Or I’ll examine the edible biography of a single food (think the pineapple). Some weeks I’ll look at a beverage (think the Martini) and other weeks I’ll examine a food product (think Old Bay spice). It’ll be ‘informative,’ sure, but I also hope it’ll be fun and interesting and something folks can generally look forward to receiving each week.
I can’t wait to share what I’ve been working on with you all.
See you next week,
Victoria
